Short History:

This auditorium was built in 2000 with the funding of Islamic Development Bank at a cost of about 39.4 million taka. At that time, it was named Islamic University Teachers-Students Cultural Center. Which was called EB TSCC for short. Then in 2001, the university administration named the auditorium Shah Azizur Rahman after a special personality of Kushtia district Shah Azizur Rahman.

But in 2012, Muntasir Mamun (sculptor of the Martyrs Memorial) and Shahriar Kabir filed a writ in the High Court stating that the auditorium was named after an anti-independence person, so its name needed to be changed. In view of this writ, the High Court ordered the name change of this establishment on May 14, 2012. Then, after discussion in the 232nd syndicate of the university on October 14, the name of this auditorium was decided as Bir Shrestha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium.
